Building Opportunity: Guild’s Partnership With One Day at a Time

June 17, 2026

At Guild, we believe meaningful employment is a critical part of recovery — helping people build confidence, establish routines, and gain greater independence.

Through our Employment Services program, we use an evidence-based approach to connect individuals living with serious mental illness to competitive jobs that match their interests and strengths.

With personalized coaching, interview preparation, and ongoing support after hire, we focus not just on finding a job, but on helping each person succeed long-term.

A key part of that success is partnering with employers like One Day at a Time, a Minnesota-based organization that has become a trusted workplace for many Guild clients. As an employer, One Day at a Time values individuals who bring empathy, reliability, and a strong sense of purpose to their roles supporting adults living independently.

What sets Guild candidates apart is often the same thing that brought them to Guild in the first place. “They can help at a deeper level sometimes with the individuals that we serve because they have that lived experience,” Dianna Windish, the president of One Day at a Time, shared. This perspective allows Guild clients to connect naturally with those they support, building trust more quickly and responding to challenges with understanding and patience.

That impact shows up in meaningful ways. For example, one Guild client joined the One Day at a Time team to support a family that was initially hesitant about working with new staff. Drawing on his own experiences managing anxiety, he approached the role with flexibility and care, and he ultimately became a trusted, consistent presence in their lives.

Windish also emphasized the role Guild plays in preparing individuals for success.“They’ve done such a great job,” she said. “They come to orientation, they’ve met with us several times … they’re able to assist their client when we’re not able to.” That ongoing support helps employees navigate training, build confidence, and stay on track.

At One Day at a Time, Guild clients aren’t just filling roles — they’re strengthening teams. Their resilience, compassion, and work ethic make them not only strong employees, but invaluable contributors to a mission centered on people.
